The Kearl aggregate operation is located 60 km east of the Corporation's Susan Lake Aggregate operation and 105 km Northeast of Fort McMurray, Alberta. This aggregate deposit is strategically located in close proximity to a major oil sands operation, which may be the primary customer.
The Kearl aggregate operation is a stripped and cleared 40 acre land parcel. There is a ready source of sand and gravel available for immediate delivery. Any aggregates sold or delivered from this aggregate operation are fully controlled by the Corporation, and will recognize full market value. This may also include any costs incurred for processing and delivery.
In March of 2011, the Corporation received approval from the Government of Alberta to open the Kearl aggregate operation. Construction began immediately on an all-weather road.
The quality of the aggregate is suitable for road and infrastructure construction and ongoing maintenance. This pit is situated in close proximity to existing oil sands development and continues to be a major source of aggregate supply in the region.
